| The Elks Rings |
| The Elks started as a drinking and socializing club for actors called the Jolly Corks
in 1868. Over time the group developed serious purposes for a chance to form a benevolent
society for the theatrical world, broadening the Jolly Corks into a fraternal, charitable, and
service organization. The name of the organization was selected because the elk has a
number of attributes that were deemed typical of those to be cultivated by members of
the fraternity such as being quick, ever alert, and a strong sense of teamwork. |
